“Lights, Faith, Action!”

Highlights

Our Academy Awards Outreach was a hit once again! Students brought their creativity and humor to the screen with short films themed around “the future.” These videos had us laughing, thinking, and wondering (especially about that sixth-grade boys’ wild prediction about a future Metropolitan senior pastor — if you know, you know). What a reminder of how bright their futures are in God’s hands!

The very first Guys Work Retreat Weekend was unforgettable! Despite cold and rainy weather, 30 students and men poured their hearts into the projects and each other. We saw them bond through small groups, prayer, hard work, and encouragement. The team blew past expectations—completing three planned projects before lunch and tackling even more:

  • Building changing rooms, a pavilion, and stairs
  • Electrical repairs and tree removal
  • Campground organization and clean-up

We’re excited to see these kinds of servant-leader moments multiply in future events!

This week, we launched our 2nd Annual VBS T-Shirt Design Contest! Kids from Kindergarten through 5th grade can enter their best “Wild West” themed art to go with this year’s Wonder Junction VBS. We can’t wait to see their imaginations run wild!

Meanwhile, Awana is approaching the finish line! Kids are pushing hard to complete their books, and our Cubbies are reciting their verses with inspiring enthusiasm. Fun nights ahead include:

  • 🍕 Pizza Party
  • 💃 Theme Nights
  • ✨ Store Night (where kids cash in their hard-earned Awana Bucks!)

Handbook Spotlight

Be Available: A Look, A Word, A Touch, A Prayer

Pastor Woody has challenged us to be more present—not just doing ministry, but being available to those God places in our path. It’s a mindset that reflects Jesus Himself, who never rushed past people in need. Here’s the heart behind it:

  • A Look – Sometimes, the most powerful thing we can offer is our attention. Making eye contact shows someone they are seen and valued. Whether it’s a child looking for help, a student with a question, or a friend walking down the hall, we want to be people who acknowledge and engage. Let’s not underestimate the impact of pausing long enough to connect with a glance.
  • A Word – Words can build up or tear down, and Scripture is filled with reminders of their power (see James 3). Taking time to speak encouragement, ask thoughtful questions, or simply listen well can make someone feel loved and known. This is where relationships grow. Let’s use our words to uplift, affirm, and connect.
  • A Touch – In a safe and appropriate way, physical touch can communicate warmth, welcome, and belonging. Whether it’s a high five to a kid who just finished a verse or a handshake that says “I’m glad you’re here,” these small actions matter. They break barriers and build bridges.
  • A Prayer – Telling someone “I’ll pray for you” is good. But praying with someone in the moment? That’s powerful. It’s a tangible expression of care and faith. We’ve committed as a staff to pray with at least two people on Sundays and Wednesdays—and it’s been one of the most meaningful shifts in how we minister. Imagine what would happen if our whole church embraced that challenge.

Let’s be intentional. Let’s be available. Let’s reflect the heart of Jesus—who gave people His time, attention, touch, and truth.

What We’ve Learned & What’s Next

On Wednesday nights, students are diving into Galatians. On Sundays, high schoolers are walking through Romans 8-10, and middle schoolers are studying Colossians through Thessalonians.
Please keep praying for:

  • Sunday groups as they wrestle with deep theological questions
  • Wednesday D-Groups as they grow in daily dependence on God

Stay engaged through our Facebook and Church Center groups—we share weekly questions and updates there to help you connect with your student’s faith journey.

In Metro Kids, March was all about parables—stories that showed kids how much God loves them and what it means to follow Him. They learned that:

  • God shows us what’s right
  • God wants us to be generous
  • God sends help when we need it
  • God always gives us another chance

Now, with spring in full bloom, our kids are walking through the Easter story in a series called Full Bloom. They’re learning about Jesus as our Rescuer, Comforter, and the One who brings new life.

We’re so thankful for all of you who help Metro Kids and Metro Students thrive. Your prayers, presence, and support mean the world as we keep building a community full of faith, fun, and transformation!
