Our Interim Pastor Journey Begins

We are pleased to announce that Dr. David Michael “Woody” Woodward will join Metropolitan Bible Church as an intentional interim pastor. Woody brings over four decades of ministry experience and specializes in helping churches navigate transitions through a thoughtful, structured process.

About Woody

Woody holds degrees from the University of Texas (BA), Dallas Theological Seminary (ThM), and Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary (Doctor of Ministry). His approach to ministry emphasizes clear, relevant biblical teaching and healthy church development. He has successfully led churches ranging from 30 to 1,200 members through periods of transition and growth.

Throughout his career, Woody has demonstrated a commitment to biblical teaching, church health, and effective leadership.

“I tell churches not to watch the clock, but to enjoy the ride. I come to be your pastor, to serve as a shepherd and caregiver alongside your other staff and lay elders. I come to make lifelong friends and ministry partners,” shares Woody about his approach to interim ministry.

Understanding the Interim Process

Woody serves through Interim Pastor Ministries (IPM), an organization dedicated to helping churches navigate leadership transitions effectively. His role is specifically as an interim pastor, not as a candidate for the senior pastor position.

The interim process typically spans 12-18 months and follows five strategic stages:

  1. Connect with People: Building relationships and trust while gathering initial insights through listening sessions
  2. Assess Church Health: Evaluating our congregation’s current state using comprehensive tools, including a 300-question survey
  3. Facilitate Action: Addressing any identified areas for growth or improvement
  4. Lead Strategic Planning: Developing clear vision and direction through collaborative leadership
  5. Coach the Search Team: Help guide the process of finding our next senior pastor

Let’s embrace this season of transition as an opportunity for growth and renewal as we welcome him to our church family.
